Kathy nortonSpring is here and life seems to take on a new meaning. We have often heard the term "spring cleaning." Where did this saying originate? What importance does it have naturally and spiritually in our lives? In the Far East the custom originated from the early Israelites. The Passover Feast was never celebrated until house-cleaning was completed. This required a top to bottom cleaning throughout the house. When one was saved the blood of Jesus Christ was the forever more sacrifice. He sent us a guide and comforter- the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost teaches us all things and brings all things to our remembrance whatsoever Jesus made known. Though we are in this world , we are not of this world. God did not take away flesh. | Within our environment are the characteristics of this world. 1 John 2:16 clearly defines them. They are the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. Unless we are transformed by the Word of God everyday ,we can unknowingly be conformed to this world. Every God-inspired writer warns of how we can be deceived. For example, James 1:27 defines True religion and pure and faultless before God is this; to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. Colossians 3:2 instructs us to "Set our minds on things above not on things of this earth." Paul further sets out rules for clean and Holy living. Paul says, "Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed." Sounds like house cleaning to me. In fact, more like taking out the garbage. | When Jesus Christ was with His disciples, He said, "Now, you are clean through the Word I have spoken unto you." The Word is the only cleansing agent. I did not forget spring cleaning. In the natural, the benefits of spring cleaning are a clean home, easy accessibility to items, cutting down on pests, mold, and mildew infestation; thus ensuring better health, and by removing clutter you can focus on that which matters . Finally, where there is order, your mind is positively affected. My only disagreement with spring cleaning is it is seasonal. The house-cleaning of a Christian is daily. 1John1:8 sums it up: " If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness." When looking for help, no cleaning service available. "Save yourselves from this untoward generation." |
