The Single Moms clubWatching the Single Moms Club directed by Tyler Perry was like watching an episode off of TBS. Sitting through over an hour and a half of wish-washy entertainment is not worth movie goers paying for the large bucket of refillable popcorn. The story line was forgettable along with it's characters. Even Nia Long, who probably has a decent fan base, couldn't bring the movie to a standard of satisfaction as some of her pervious roles. Simply put, the movie is about five single women who have about the same things and problems in common as 'real single moms' without the club. Nia Long plays May, a writer who was had a child by a man who is on drugs. Wendi-McLendon-Covey, who portrays Jan, is a workaholic attorney who used a sperm donor to create her two-person family. Then we have Amy Smart's character Hillary, divorcee, who has a lot of kids that she can't control showing a lack of paternal instinct. Lastly, the good old-fashioned and might I add stereotypical black woman who lives in the ghetto, working in a diner and can't afford to higher a babysitter to take care of her kids while she works hard to put her youngest son through private school in hopes that he doesn't end up like his brother. With clichés like these, its no wonder why the movie wasn't well received. Placing this movie in the red zone, it's better to wait till it becomes a hit TBS special. | DivergentDeclaring Divergent to be the next Twilight series, Veronica Roth, writer of this popular young teen novel, has slowly introduced a three-part series to the movie screen. Divergent is about a city that has divided itself into factions. The factions are a way to group people according to personality and trait. However, those who did not conform to the identity of the factions were called Divergent and were sought out to be eliminated. Admittedly, the movie does have a Hunger Games kind of feel, but more in a futuristic way. The main characters, Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) has a "I like you but too scared to admit it" romantic love that you can see on screen. As for the rest of the supporting cast, they add a little flair to the overall storyline but only those who have read the book will know the future of their fates for the sequel. The story, however, is more like an introduction to what is about to come. It's really a slow moving pace that picks up momentum when Tris discovers that the faction leader played by Kate Winslet it seeking to destroy all the Divergents. For the most part, more than half of the movie is spent training the Dauntless to be fearless. They are beating the crap out of each other, conspiring against one another and rearing the green-eye monster most of the time in competition to stay in Dauntless and not end up Factionless. The movie is worth watching if you are a fan of action and adventure. | NoahDramatic, action-packed and seemingly weird would not even come close to describing the biblical account of Noah. It is understandable to see how this movie may upset Christians around the world being that the story depicted was an inaccurate portrayal of Noah according to the scriptures. Although Russell Crow does make a convincing Noah, his character doesn't give justice to the actual Noah, who by God, was considered a righteous man. What makes this story stand out of place is a couple of things. First, the interpretation of the angles (called the Watchers) was a little shocking to get adjusted to considering they were huge formations of walking-talking rocks. Secondly, nowhere in the biblical account does it say that Ham did not have a wife or a villain being able to break God's power and break into the ark being spared from the flood to continue on with multiplying the world. On a positive note, the movie did have a few good scenes that makes it worth watching. When Noah retells the story of creation, the director Darren Afronofsky, did an amazing job in depicting Genesis. Another great scene was at the end when the rainbow appeared. It showed how God kept his covenant with Noah and the world promising it would not be destroyed by water but with fire next time. Overall, if you are considering to watch this moive, please be advised that it is man-made story with an attempt to entertain rather than give truth. |
